Reflection
I believe this graduate assistantship has been a blessing in disguise. To be honest, I did not choose this position to be my first choice. However, the position was open and I decided to interview for the chance to work with students and help in implementing various programming throughout the school year. Best. Choice. Ever. I have learned tremendously the tedious work involved and the experience to work with students have taught me a great deal about the field. Being able to directly work with students, experiencing their own personal and professional development, and help in the event planning process of their events has increased my knowledge of Autonomy. Chickering’s theory reinforces this concept of moving from autonomy toward interdependence. Students are able to see growth through problem solving capabilities, having initiative, and being self-directed in their position.
